New signage for Skyline’s Kalauao Station

The Skyline’s Kalauao Station has new signage that shares a bit of Kalauao’s historical significance, and includes a map of some of the ahupuaʻa’s landmarks.

ACA board member Kehaulani Lum played a major role in ensuring that Kalauao’s status as the former royal seat for the Kingdom of Oʻahu was recognized in this signage. Mahalo nui, Kehau!

March ACA meeting canceled; other announcements

March meeting canceled

The March 2024 ‘Aiea Community Association meeting has been canceled. Our next meeting will take place on April 15, 2024.

Friends of Makalapa Park: Milo tree planting on March 18, 2pm

The National Park Service has announced that there will be a tree planting event at Makalapa Neighborhood Park on March 18 at 2pm. The NPS Team and others affiliated with the Friends of Makalapa Park will be planting four milo trees to help increase the park’s tree cover.

Volunteer opportunity with Catholic Charities

Transportation for Kupuna is a program administered by Catholic Charities, in which kupuna who live alone or have mobility issues with volunteer drivers to get to where they need to go.

Catholic Charities is looking for volunteer drivers. They indicated that need is particularly great in the Pearl City and ‘Aiea areas.

Department of Health to Host Fuel Tank Advisory Committee Meeting on March 7, 2024, 1-5pm (via Zoom or live in-person at the Hawaii Convention Center)

Via the Hawaii State Department of Health:

HONOLULU – The Hawaiʻi Department of Health (DOH) will convene a Fuel Tank Advisory Committee meeting Thursday on updates related to the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility. The agenda includes information on the closure process, site assessment plan, and the Navy housing drinking water system.

Representatives from the DOH, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Joint Task Force-Red Hill, Navy Closure Task Force – Red Hill, will be presenting at the meeting. The Defense Health Agency also will participate.
