HART’s Shop & Dine on the Line program is in full swing as several dozen merchants, vendors and restaurant operators are now offering special offers and discounts to customers who frequent their businesses along the rail alignment.

HART has created a brochure containing all the current offers and discounts. You can view the brochure and download the Shop & Dine on the Line card at www.ShopAndDineOnTheLine.com

Browse through the offers, stop by the participating business, show the program card or the discount brochure–or just mention Shop & Dine on the Line–and receive your special discount.

If you own a business and would like to participate in the program, you can visit the same website to sign up.

Come celebrate the one year anniversary of the opening of the new ‘Aiea Public Library!

Note that the ‘Aiea Neighborhood Board will be in recess in August 2015. The next meeting will be on September 14, 2015 at 7:30pm at the ‘Aiea Public Library Program Room.

As a reminder, please Traffic Updates page of the Honolulu Transit website for the latest on lane closures along Kamehameha Highway due to the Honolulu Rail Transit project. The traffic advisories are updated weekly.

For the safety of both the work crews and motorists, the public is advised to proceed with caution through these areas. Drivers should anticipate possible traffic delays or use alternate routes during work hours, and provide a safe distance between their vehicles and workers and equipment.

Now-February 20, 2015.

1) Who can be a candidate for a Neighborhood Board?
Any Oahu resident who will be at least 18 years of age by February 20, 2015 can be a candidate, including military personnel, military family members, and legal resident aliens.

2) How do I become a candidate?
Starting December 1, 2014, candidates may register online or submit a Candidate Declaration Form to the Neighborhood Commission Office (NCO). This form can be downloaded from the NCO website and are also available at the NCO office. The form must be hand delivered to the NCO or postmarked by February 20, 2015. Assistance is also available by calling 768-3717.

When filling in the application, please be prepared with the following:

– Candidate Profile describing yourself and your qualifications. Profiles must only go up to 400 characters, punctuation included.
– 1 photo (optional).

3) How do I find out what Board area I live in?
There is a street index posted online here. Ctrl+F to search for your street. Your Board will be listed under the ‘District’ column. Your Subdistrict is listed in the immediate column to the right. 00 denotes an At-Large subdistrict. You may also refer to the map here. Assistance is available by calling 768-3717.

4) How often do Neighborhood Boards get elected?
Neighborhood Boards are elected every two years, in odd numbered years.

Please disregard this post. We will be meeting at our regularly scheduled date and time (Monday, January 19th at 7:30 pm in the Aiea Public Library meeting room). Apologies for this inconvenience.

Because the ACA’s January meeting falls on a holiday (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), we are moving our monthly meeting to Tuesday, January 20th instead. The meeting will be held at the usual place (Aiea Library meeting room).

A new “photo gallery” section has been added to our website! It took a bit of time for your slow-minded webmaster to figure out the logic behind Piwigo (the software that powers the gallery), but the darn thing is finally up!

Various photo galleries are in the work, but to start the section off, it seems fitting to look back at the first annual ‘Aiea Community Christmas Parade back in December of 2007, since the now eight-year-old tradition will be happening in just a couple of weeks! 12 photos from that day are online…and hopefully more will come once I’m able to figure out where the other photos are.

In other website news, I did some general back-end upgrades this evening to the software that powers this website…and managed to break the calendar in the process. I just got it working again, but I apologize if you were affected by the short down-time. In addition, I finally got the web forms on this website working again, so you should now be able to apply to be an ACA member online and contact us using the contact link.

Please note that the ‘Aiea Neighborhood Board is on recess during the month of December. The next meeting of the ‘Aiea Neighborhood Board will be on January 12, 2014.

The ‘Aiea Community Association will be meeting as usual on December 15, 2014 (this is the Monday after the parade).

The holidays are rapidly approaching, and as we all know, the otherwise happy holiday time brings with it massively unhappy traffic conditions, especially going toward Pearlridge Shopping Center. Avoid traffic headaches by following weekly traffic updates from the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transit’s website!

Once again, the ‘Aiea Community Association will be sponsoring and organizing a Christmas parade! This year’s parade will be held on December 13, 2014. Note that the route has changed from last year: It will start at the ‘Aiea Sugar Mill site on Halewiliko Street, continue along ‘Aiea Heights Drive and Ulune Street, then left onto Kaamilo Street, right onto Moanalua Road, ending at Toys R Us. Join us afterwards at the Pearlridge Farmer’s Market by Sears! If you’re interested in participating in the parade, you can fill out an application form and submit to the parade committee by November 30, 2014.
