Reminder: Upcoming Meetings

Just your monthly reminder that:

  • The ‘Aiea Neighborhood Board will be meeting tonight, April 11th, at 7:30pm at ‘Aiea Public Library. You can find the agenda online here.
  • The ‘Aiea Community Association will be meeting next Monday, April 18th at 7:30pm at the ‘Aiea Public Library.

City Council to consider amendment to free up development restrictions on ‘Aiea Sugar Mill site

Tomorrow (April 5th), the Honolulu City Council’s Budget Committee will be meeting at 9am to discuss, among other things, a proposed amendment from Council Chair Ernie Martin that would add to the city’s budget $3.84 million that would be used to reimburse the federal government for section 8 fees that were used to buy the ‘Aiea Sugar Mill property back in the early 200s.

By reimbursing the federal government, it would allow the site to be developed with a wider range of uses, some of which may include senior housing or rehabilitation services, a community recreation center, and other related uses that would serve the ‘Aiea community’s best interests.

We encourage you to please take some time to submit written testimony in support of this amendment. All you have to do is follow this link and fill out the form to express your support. Under the field that reads, “Council/PH Committee,” select budget; under “meeting date,” select April 5, 2016; and under bill item, type, “Bill 14.” For the testimony itself, you can use a format similar to below:

To: Budget Committee Chair Ann H. Kobayashi & Committee Members

Date: April 5, 2016

This year’s ‘Aiea Christmas Parade & Fun Fair will be held on Saturday, December 12th! This year’s parade will start at Pearlridge Elementary School at 9am, run east along Moanalua Road, then left onto Kaamilo Street, right onto Ulune Street, and end at the old ‘Aiea Sugar Mill site. (That is, this is the “old” route, not the same route that the parade ran last year.)  The Fun Fair will run at the sugar mill site from 10am-2pm.

We are currently accepting applications from groups that want to either march in the parade or get a booth or entertain at the fun fair! If you are interested in participating in either the parade or the fun fair, please download the forms below and submit them to the email address or postal address listed on the form.

In addition, we still need volunteers for the parade to make sure everything runs smoothly! If you are interested in serving your community by volunteering, please send an email to aieaparade@yahoo.com.

We look forward to seeing you at the parade and fair!
